MOU Signing with Municipality of Chihuahua and Foundation Produce (NGO)

Chihuahua City, Mexico on August 16, 2019

The NMSU delegation was in Chihuahua City to participate in the AgExpo 2019 where College of ACES has a booth for recruiting students. On August 16, delegation attended the signing of an MOU ceremony with Municipality of Chihuahua and Foundation Produce at the Mayor's office. A wide range of possible collaboration opportunities was discussed. Possibilities of student exchange, city providing financial assistance to students to study at NMSU with service commitments, extension related training of city staff, assistance in agricultural water management, among others. Mayor and the delegation is planning to visit NMSU main campus in Las Cruces in November to move collaboration forward.

The NMSU delegation also visited Foundation Produce (largest NGO in Mexico) office and saw the research facility, lab, and experimental farm planted with many chile and grape varieties. Foundation produce will organize joint workshops for students and producers of Mexico in collaboration with the College of ACES. A tentative plan for a workshop on water use in Chihuahua City in November of 2019 was discussed. Foundation Produce wants technology transfer and is willing to be part of a future USAID sponsored project also known as F2F. The Secretary and the President of Foundation Produce plan to visit NMSU main campus in Las Cruces during November or December 2019.
