College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) has extensive collaborations with various Universities and Institutions in Mexico. Some of them are:

  1. Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez
  2. Universidad de Guadalajara
  3. University of Nuevo Leon, University of Tabasco
  4. Universidad Juárez del Estado de Durango
  5. Universidad Autoacute;noma de Chihuahua
  6. Secretaría de Agricultura, Ganadería, Desarrollo Rural, Pesca, y Alimentación (SAGARPA)
  7. Coordinadora Nacional de las Fundaciones Produce (COFUPRO)

There are many past and on-going research collaborations with Universidad Autoacute;noma de Ciudad Juárez (UACJ) because of the proximity of both Universities. Several of the faculty members from ACES have served as the co-chair and committee members of the graduate committees of students at UACJ. Some of the students are- Bernice Hernandez, UG Thesis, Joel Hernandez, M. Sc., Mireya Rios, M. Sc., Nadia Rodriguez M. Sc., Joel Hernandez, Ph.D. There is also a MOU between the two Institutions. Secretaría de Agricultura, Ganadería, Desarrollo Rural, Pesca y Alimentacioacute;n (SAGARPA)-REINU Project, recognizing the need to support the development of rural Mexican communities and to provide opportunities for communities to be productive and successful, is providing support for a bi-national university program for rural development, technology and information--REINU. The objective of the REINU initiative is to help to address rural poverty in Mexico by engaging universities in these communities, while leveraging knowledge, information and technologies in order to provide enhanced and sustainable opportunities within rural communities. REINU project proposes to help address rural poverty and other social economic and environmental issues through an integrated community development approach, drawing on the strength of universities in Mexico and the U.S. NMSU REINU team made 12 domestic and international trips in support of the project goals. Visited over 20 rural communities in both the US and Mexico to make on the ground assessments of extension programs and activities and have provided over 100 hours of professional extension and 4-H youth development training to our partner University faculty, staff and students. NMSU developed a REINU Extension Methods 101 curriculum that provides of pathway for the development of REINU Extension work at both the national and local level.

College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) has also submitted a proposal to generate sustainable, broad-based economic growth in the agricultural sector in each of the three Climate Hub regions of Mexico through an integrated, convergent volunteer program, curriculum and people-to-people engagement and technical assistance. This USAID program is known as Farmer-to-Farmer Agriculture Volunteer Opportunity Project (AVOP) Small Grants Program. The past collaborations between ACES and Mexico partners have resulted in several projects funded by US and Mexico funding agencies. Some of the projects funded by US agencies are listed below:

2006 Southwest Consortium for Environmental Research and Policy (SCERP), "Mapping of airborne particulate matter under two land uses: agriculture and unpaved road" (Shukla, Margez) ($71,000)

2010 New Mexico Department of Health, "Land-based Sources of Air Quality Contamination in the Binational Border Region of Southwestern New Mexico, Northwestern Chihuahua and West Texas.. Dubois, Wang, Shukla, Sammis, Margez et al. ($250K)

2011-12 Southwest Consortium for Environmental Research and Policy (SCERP), "Mapping and Characterization of Airborne Particulate Matter Collected Using a Low Cost Device from Different Sources", (Shukla, Dubois, Margez) ($59,992)

2013-14 New Mexico Department of Health, "Land-based sources of air quality contaminants in the Binational Border Region of Southwestern New Mexico, Northwestern Chihuahua and West Texas", (Dubois, Shukla, Margez et al.) ($232,000)
